Blackberry Ridge Farms is a family adventure

Will Oberton and his daughter, Erin Gervais, began Blackberry Ridge Farms in 2015 with the purchase of 41 head of Galloway cattle and a desire to steward land that was already owned. By producing high-quality food for Winona, Minnesota and the surrounding areas, Blackberry Ridge is a return to Oberton’s dairy farming roots.

Our Passion

Our Passion

Gervais has three young sons motivating her: “I want to teach my children how our food is grown and produced, how to care for the animals that end up on our plates and how to live simpler, more sustainable lives."

We know that what we put into our bodies makes a difference. The same goes for cattle. Blackberry Ridge chooses grass-fed because it's a simple way to care for the land as well as the animals. The nutritional profile of grass-fed beef is significantly different from what many of us grew up eating. It's lower in fat and calories, higher in good fat content (Omega-3’s) and contains higher levels of carotenoids, vitamin E and minerals.

Our Cattle

Our Cattle

Blackberry Ridge chooses Galloway cattle because of their winter hardiness, excellent meat quality and ability to calve easily. Since they calve easily on their own, they can often remain in the pasture to give birth. Plus, Galloway have a thick, shaggy coat that keeps their meat leaner, which reduces waste at the butcher.

Our Farm

Our Farm

Blackberry Ridge is located just outside of Winona, overlooking the city from atop the bluffs. We have over 300 acres of pasture that the cattle rotate through over the course of the year. We also cut and bale hay from our land to keep the cattle well fed throughout the winter. In addition to cattle, we occasionally raise chickens and vegetables, work honey bees, and make maple syrup that our family enjoys year round.
